Why we created Stitch & Loom

We couldn't find the perfect rug. So we created it.

Our mission at Stitch & Loom is to offer you the perfect rug and other woven goods ethically and sustainably. We partner with skilled artisans who handcraft textiles using sustainable materials and traditional weaving methods. Our design team helps the artisans adapt the colors and patterns to fit a more contemporary aesthetic. This results in one-of-a-kind textiles for our customers that has both a modern appeal and helps traditional artisans survive in a world of soulless factory-made textiles.

About the Founder

Christopher’s love of traditional textiles can be credited to his grandmother June, whose home is blanketed in beautiful rugs and ornate tapestries she collected on her many world travels. Every woven treasure in her home revealed a rich tale of history and adventure, which inspired his own worldly adventures. He became particularly fascinated with the ancient Meso-American textiles of Central America and how many of the motifs and patterns revealed ancient symbols and deities. He believes that by honoring the cultural significance of traditional textiles, those cultures will live on and not become relics of the past like many traditional cultures have.

A self-described retail anthropologist, he believes the products we bring in our homes should tell a story, which gives them not just value but meaning. A house without a story is just a house, but a house with a story is a home.
